WEP offers free in-person tours at our wastewater treatment plants. This unique, behind-the-scenes opportunity is an excellent way to learn about this vital environmental work.

Wastewater facilities and processes are fascinating and the Department of Water Environment Protection (WEP) is eager to share our knowledge with everyone. To ensure everyone enjoys the visit, requirements are in place for all WEP facility tours.

Tour Day

Listen to your tour guide who provides important information to keep you safe while at our facility. Conditions at our facilities include grated walkways, slippery surfaces, and loud and noisy environments.

Safety protocols must be followed at all times.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Visitors engaging in risky or distracting behaviors will not be allowed to continue the tour.

Safety Gear and Clothing

Tours are typically on hard surfaces, mostly outdoors,
and around various machinery and equipment.
Please come prepared for your visit.

Required

  • Flat, stable, closed-toed secure shoes
  • Safety glasses (provided by WEP)

Recommended

  • Earplugs
  • Avoid loose or baggy apparel
  • Tuck in loose items (e.g. scarves, shoelaces)
  • Dress for the weather
  • Wear comfortable clothing

Age Requirement

Visitors must be at least 18 years old.

Requests for Tour Groups, Accommodations

At this time tours are limited to these facilities: Baldwinsville-Seneca Knolls, Brewerton, and Wetzel Rd.

Tours are held Monday-Friday during regular business hours, pending weather and approval.

Maximum tour group size = 10 to ensure a safe and positive experience.
