The Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection (WEP) sewer improvement project in Camillus, NY is necessary to rehabilitate a 24-inch pressurized sewage force main that has been in operation for over 40 years. This pipeline conveys wastewater from the Village and Town of Camillus to the Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant on Hiawatha Blvd. Rehabilitation is used to minimize disruptions to homeowners by reducing excavation and construction disturbance. A specialized construction firm will carry out this work using advanced pipeline rehabilitation techniques.

Project Components

The project will use a Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining method, a process that strengthens the existing pipe with minimal surface disruption.

• Work will require excavation at two locations (typically at an existing manhole or structure).

• A specialized liner, saturated with a chemical resin, will be inserted into the pipe and inflated.

• The liner will then be heated (or “cured”) to form a durable, new interior pipe within the existing structure.

• Once the process is complete, excavated areas will be backfilled and restored.

During the curing process, steam will be used, which may produce a temporary chemical odor. To minimize any inconvenience, we recommend keeping windows closed during daytime work hours when curing is in progress.

Construction Details on Woodmont Drive

Woodmont Drive Section Overview Map

In general, duration of disturbance at any single residence/property should be approximately 5 weeks from start to completion of surface restoration, mostly in June 2026 to December 2026. Surface restoration generally includes restoring lawns, driveways, and roadways to existing height and condition, including topsoil and seeding for any grass areas disturbed. During this time, our contractor will be actively working on the Project and will provide means of maintaining safe access to roadways and driveways for residents. This project does not require any homeowners reduce their water usage during construction.

This work requires large equipment such as excavators, dump trucks, wheel-loaders, and specialty pipeline equipment. This equipment will be driving on Woodmont Drive to access various locations along the pipeline route, and will be working within a County-owned easement on private property on the properties noted.

Project Milestones

Work on this project is scheduled to begin December 2025 and should be complete and out of the area by year end 2026. The contractor’s work hours are generally limited to between 7am and 5pm, unless an unforeseen circumstance arises that requires extended hours. We will provide further details on the construction timeline and any additional impacts as the project moves forward.
