Domestic Partnership
A domestic partnership registry allows unmarried, committed couples to legally document their relationship, granting limited rights such as hospital visitation or insurance coverage. Domestic partnership registration in New York State is handled at the municipal or county level, not by a single state-wide registry. While not statewide in New York, County Clerk Bersani worked hard to bring Domestic Partnership to Onondaga County, which now offers registration via filed, notarized affidavits.
