Investigations
The Investigation Unit at Social Services-Economic Security investigates all reported allegations of fraud in the Temporary Assistance (Welfare), SNAP (Food Stamps), Medicaid, HEAP and Day Care programs. The Unit also investigates Day Care Providers being paid by Social Services. Additionally the unit investigates cases involving food stamp trafficking where individuals redeem food stamps for cash, sell their benefits to other individuals for cash, or who buy food with their benefits and resell that food to other retailers.
Remember, when anyone signs an application or recertification they agree to any investigation to verify or confirm the information they provided.
The Investigation Unit does not investigate Social Security, Disability, Workers Comp, Unemployment or Section 8 as they are administered by other agencies.

All calls are kept strictly confidential and your identity will not be disclosed. When reporting fraud please provide as many details as possible. It is preferred that you leave your contact information, so if we need additional information for our investigation we can contact you.
We take suspected cases of fraud very seriously, and every reported allegation is reviewed. If warranted, an investigation is opened immediately. Please be aware that due to confidentiality the Department is prohibited from releasing any of our findings from investigations.
