The council formulates policy recommendations relating to environmental health issues:

  • Provides informed and objective citizen’s advice on environmental health issues to the County Executive, County Legislature and Commissioner of Health.
  • Develops and helps implement recommendations to maintain and improve air quality, water quality, water supply, water body usage, wastewater treatment, land use, handling and disposal of solid and hazardous waste.
  • Is the county’s representative to the Finger Lakes-Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance
    and is responsible for implementing program water quality protection efforts in County watersheds.
  • Reviews and comments on pertinent federal, state and other legislation or regulations of concern or interest to County government.
