Drinking Water
This Bureau of Public Health Engineering program provides engineering services in the following areas:
- Public Water Systems (PWSs) – surveillance, inspection, and regulatory oversight
- Permitted Non-Public Water Systems (NPs) – surveillance, inspection, and regulatory oversight
- Bottled and bulk water – inspection and complaint investigation
- Drinking Water Regulations
- Individual well water supplies – provide information, education, and assistance
- Plan review and approval – public water system improvements (source, treatment, distribution, and storage)
- Plan review and approval – backflow prevention devices
- Sampling – surveillance and monitoring
- Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports
- Bacteria
- Lead in Drinking Water
- Water operators – evaluation for certification
- Water operators and other water industry professionals – provide training and assistance
- Complaint investigations
- Contamination investigations
- Issuing Boil Water Orders and other Public Notifications
- Provides the public with information and education on public and private drinking water
- Surface water, i.e. lake and stream, and groundwater quality investigations
- Coordinates closely with the Plumbing Control Section of Onondaga County’s Department of Water Environment Protection and local code enforcement officials
