Neighborhood Advisors

The Onondaga County Office for Aging’s

Neighborhood Advisor Program has been helping seniors in the community for over 40 years and consists of a corps of outreach workers located in urban, suburban and rural “zones” around the county. 

Neighborhood Advisors:

  • Assist older adults in obtaining the services they need to remain independent in their homes
  • Promote awareness of community services
  • Make referrals and connect older adults with services
  • Follow-up to ensure that the services have been received

The services of a Neighborhood Advisors are free and confidential. An appointment is needed to meet with a Neighborhood Advisor and the meeting can take place in the senior’s home or at a local library, senior center or community center.  Neighborhood Advisors assist with the completion of medical applications and other forms as well as assist in locating services related to:

  • Health Care
  • Legal Advice
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Nutrition and Exercise
  • Socialization
  • Caregiver Information

Neighborhood Advisors also provide information about income-stretching programs such as:

  • Social Security Income
  • SNAP (Food Stamps)
  • Employment
  • EPIC
  • Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
  • IT-214 Form/· Property Tax Reduction
