Legislature Seeks Residents for New Housing & Transportation Citizen Advisory Board
Search for appointments includes Several County Agencies, Boards, and Commissions; First Round of Applicants for Housing & Transportation Advisory Board due April 1
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Onondaga County Legislature is seeking to engage new residents to serve for appointments to county boards and commission. The chairwoman of the legislature has the responsibility of appointing legislators and residents to fill vacancies across several boards.
“We have been working through all of the Legislature’s board and commission appointments and found that while some vacancies must be filled by legislators, there’s gainful opportunity to include the talent and experiences of residents across the county,” said Chairwoman Watts.
In addition to the Legislature’s existing outside boards, the office is seeking individuals interested in serving on the new ad hoc Housing + Transportation Citizens Advisory Board. This new board and associated task forces will make recommendations and provide advice to the Planning and Economic Development Committee on matters related to current and future housing needs, and aim to align housing policy, transportation planning, infrastructure investments, and mobility needs.
“The Housing + Transportation Citizens Advisory Board and the activities they will undertake will seek to both gather highly informed and involved voices in their various housing and transportation sectors, along with the voices of those impacted by our evolving housing needs as a County. We need all these voices meaningfully represented in these rooms,” said Watts.
How to Apply
Residents can apply to serve on a board via the Legislature’s website onongaga.gov/engage/board-service.
The Engage on a Board web page has an online submission and instructions for showing interest by mail. The site also informs residents about outside boards and includes a brief overview of the board, its size, and term limits.
To be considered for the Housing + Transportation Board and task forces, your application must be received by April 1. Afterward, all board interests will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
