SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II today announced that Crouse Health will serve as the official naming sponsor of the new Harborview Aquarium, a transformational regional attraction opening soon along Syracuse’s revitalized lake front. The partnership reflects the shared values, community commitment, and long-standing dedication to public wellbeing that both organizations bring to Central New York. The new name will officially be “Crouse Health Harborview Aquarium”.

The Harborview Aquarium also builds on the County’s ongoing commitment to strong collaboration among its cultural and educational institutions. The synergy between the Aquarium, the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), and the Rosamond Gifford Zoo strengthens the region’s STEM ecosystem, enhances conservation education, and creates new opportunities for joint programming and cross institution learning.

The partnership leverages the MOST’s proven leadership in immersive STEM education and the Aquarium’s ability to bring aquatic ecosystems to life, creating a more robust, accessible, and impactful learning environment for thousands of students each year.

Harborview Aquarium: Fun Facts

• The Aquarium will feature more than two hundred species spanning marine, freshwater, and coastal ecosystems.
• Its central exhibit, a 360-degree immersive “Harbor Tunnel,” surrounds visitors with aquatic life from both local and global waterways.
• Designed with sustainability in mind, Harborview will utilize advanced water filtration and energy efficient systems to reduce environmental impact.
• Interactive zones will offer STEM learning, touch tank experiences, and hands on conservation activities for children and families.
• The Aquarium is projected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, contributing
  significantly to the continued revitalization of Syracuse’s lake front district.

Harborview Aquarium is committed to offering a world class experience that is accessible, engaging, and financially sustainable, enhancing Central New York’s cultural landscape for generations to come. Crouse Hospital has been caring for generations of Central New Yorkers since 1887. Our mission is to provide the best in patient care and promote community health.

Crouse is licensed for 506 acute-care adult beds and 57 bassinets, and serves more than 22,000 inpatients, 60,000 emergency services visits and nearly one million outpatients per year from a 14-county area in Central New York. As a Regional Perinatal Center, Crouse delivers approximately 4,000 babies each year and is home to the region’s highest level NICU, serving 17 hospitals.

Crouse operates the Pomeroy College of Nursing, providing critical nursing education to more than 350 students annually. Many of the 4,400 employees are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU1199).
