County Executive McMahon Announces $2 Million in North Side Main Street Investments
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – At a press conference held this morning at the Regional Market, County Executive J.
Ryan McMahon, II was joined by Mayor Sharon F. Owens to announce a new round of North Side Main Street investments totaling $2 million, including $1.5 million in County funding and $500,000 in property-owner matches. This latest round supports 19 projects across key Northside corridors, aimed at improving facades, strengthening small businesses, and enhancing neighborhood vitality.
The Main Street program has seen extensive growth since its inception. Since 2019, the County has invested $22.5 million, with property owners contributing an additional $15,995,109, resulting in a combined $38,495,109 in community-driven improvements across 357 projects.
The 2026 Northside portfolio features work ranging from façade restorations to enhanced lighting, signage, windows, and masonry repair – all tailored to strengthen business operations and neighborhood character.
Examples include:
•Rocky’s News, 447 N. Salina St. – Installing new windows, doors, lights, signage, brick repointing/repair, and eave improvements.
•Crab Spot, 449 N. Salina St. – Installing new windows and doors, updated façade, lighting, signage, and brick repair.
•County Wide Appliance, 1001 N. State St. – Adding 39 new windows, new metal siding, and a dumpster enclosure with fence extension.
•Syracuse Antique Exchange, 1629 N. Salina St. – New windows, lighting, signage, patio, fencing, doors, painting, and brick work.
•Guilfoil’s Irish Pub, 501 Burnet Ave. – New windows and doors, upper siding, soffits and fascia, window security bars, and an enclosed dumpster area.
•Café Kubal, 208 N. Townsend St. – Brick repointing, door repair/replacement, signage improvements, and pergola/fence upgrades.
•Luminaire B & B, 714 N. McBride St. – Masonry restoration, window replacement, paint and wood repair, new railings, porch updates, gutters, and tower restoration.
These projects span neighborhoods including North Salina, Butternut/Salina, Washington Square,
Hawley-Green, and Prospect Hill — reflecting broad geographic momentum across the Northside.

The Main Street program focuses on revitalizing commercial corridors by supporting building upgrades, improving business viability, and encouraging private investment. Since 2019, the partnership between the County and property owners has generated over $38 million in improvements across more than 350 projects, driving economic activity and strengthening community identity
