County Executive McMahon Announces Opening of Hopkins Park SuperField
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and Parks Commissioner Brian
Kelley, along with community leaders, project partners, and local residents, celebrated the official
ribbon cutting of the new Hopkins Park Turf SuperField Phase 1 on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in
Liverpool.
This project marks a major investment in recreational opportunities and community wellness for
residents across the region. The new 230,000-square-foot athletic complex features high-performance
synthetic turf capable of supporting two full-size baseball or softball fields with dugouts and bullpens
for simultaneous play. The complex can also be quickly converted into three youth soccer fields or an
adult championship soccer field, and the field dimensions accommodate lacrosse and football as well.
Additional amenities include two scoreboards and full site lighting for nighttime play, establishing
Hopkins Park as a premier destination for youth, amateur, and community sports. The project also
included significant infrastructure upgrades, such as new water and electric services, to support long-term operations and future growth. The turf system is engineered for rapid drainage, allowing play to resume almost immediately after most rain events and minimizing cancellations.
The project was designed and delivered through a partnership between Onondaga County, CPL
Architecture, Engineering, Planning, and local contractors WD Malone, Chenango Contracting, and
Stilsing Electric. Their work helped bring the vision for Hopkins Park to life, transforming it into a
modern, multi-use athletic destination.
This project represents a significant investment in the health, recreation, and quality of life of the community. The Hopkins Park Turf SuperField will provide athletes, families, and visitors with high-quality facilities for years to come. The new complex is expected to support local athletic programs, tournaments, community events, and recreational activities, while strengthening Onondaga County’s ability to attract visitors and drive economic activity through sports tourism.
