Court-Based Mental Health Navigators

The Court-Based Mental Health Navigation program is a short term, voluntary service that aims to address barriers to accessing behavioral treatment, services, and resources for those who are currently involved in the justice system. Court Navigators work within the local criminal courts throughout Onondaga County and specialize in community connections.

Successful eligibility for the program requires having at least one of the following mental health criteria and one criminal justice criteria:

Mental Health Eligibility Criteria

  • Defendants who have a known history of severe mental illness OR are assessed by Navigators to need mental health services.

Criminal Justice Eligibility Criteria

  • Defendants, who are in the community pending an outcome and with a misdemeanor or felony criminal case pending.
