Statement on ICE entering Downtown Syracuse Business

Statement from Leg. Chad M. Ryan

“We’ve read that Federal agents entered a closed Downtown Syracuse restaurant Monday morning and left with two people in custody. According to the owner, no warrant was ever shown. A small business lost most of a day’s revenue, and the public still doesn’t know what legal authority was used. Residents and business owners in Onondaga County deserve that answer. Accountability doesn’t stop at the federal level.

I’ve consistently pushed for accountability in how government uses its authority, and that standard applies to every agency operating in our community. I’m speaking to our federal representatives regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security’s answers to these questions. I encourage business owners to review the Attorney General’s guidance about ICE in the workplace. Enforcement should not disrupt Central New Yorkers’ lives or our economy.”
