Statement on Term Limits Discussion at Upcoming Ways & Means
Today, the Legislature released its Ways and Means agenda which includes an upcoming discussion on the local law transmitted to the Board of Elections. This conversation is to discuss the referendum that is currently blocked from the ballot by a Board of Election commissioner. We are compelled to review potential legal action regarding the referendum and to seek interpretation of these unforeseen circumstances.
This topic is important to residents in Onondaga County and needs a resolution. It not only directly influences their opportunity to participate in a voter referendum, but it would also provide needed precedent for County government and the Board of Elections in areas where the charter does not provide guidance. The continued focus from this body remains to ensure transparency, clarify process, and uphold its responsibility to the public.
