Onondaga County Awarded $3.4m in Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration and Healthy Homes Grants

One of 15 Grant Recipients Nationwide

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced that Onondaga
County’s Community Development Office has been awarded $3.4 million dollar in Lead Hazard
Reduction Demonstration and Healthy Homes Grants.

“We are pleased to receive these grants from HUD to continue our efforts addressing lead in
homes,” said Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney. “Our Office of Community
Development has been recognized by HUD as operating one of the best lead reduction
programs in the country and being selected as one of only fifteen recipients in the country is
great news. Congratulations to our dedicated Community Development team and thank you to
HUD for awarding our exceptional efforts.”

Onondaga County will be awarded $3,000,000 in Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration grant
program funding and $400,000 in Healthy Homes Supplemental funding. The County will
address lead hazards in 195 housing units providing safer homes for low and very low-income
families with children. The Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration grant program will also
perform healthy homes interventions in 100 units. Onondaga County will collaborate with a
diverse set of local partners to accomplish this work, Onondaga County Health Department
Lead Poisoning Control Program, Child Care Solutions of CNY, and Southern Hills Preservation.
