County Executive McMahon Unveils Modernized & Expanded Onondaga Lake Park Marina
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon today joined the Onondaga County Parks team and local officials to unveil the newly revitalized Onondaga Lake Park Marina, marking a major milestone in expanding public access and strengthening the region’s economic vitality.
The nearly $10 million project represents the most significant investment in the marina since its construction in 1933 by the Works Progress Administration. Following decades of limited upgrades, the modernization expands capacity, enhances safety, and positions the facility as a premier recreational destination for residents and visitors across Central New York.
“From the start, this project has been about unlocking the economic and recreational potential of Onondaga Lake for every resident,” said County Executive Ryan McMahon. “By expanding marina capacity, enhancing environmental safety, and upgrading our infrastructure, we are creating a vibrant waterfront destination that supports local jobs, businesses, and tourism across Central New York.”
Key Improvements Include:
- Expansion of slip capacity from 96 in 2025 to 135 in 2026
- Addition of 28 new boat slips and 11 personal watercraft slips
- Net gain of 39 new docks
- Installation of modern floating docks and upgraded utilities
- Construction of a 1,000-foot steel sheet pile retaining wall to improve shoreline stability and long-term durability
The enhanced marina is expected to increase foot traffic to nearby restaurants, retailers, lodging, and recreation services—delivering measurable economic benefits during peak boating season and beyond. The updated infrastructure also supports improved safety and resilience for decades to come.
The revitalized Onondaga Lake Park Marina is open to permitted tenants only. For facility updates, dock rental information, and additional details, visitors are encouraged to contact the Onondaga County Parks Department or visit onondagacountyparks.com.
This investment reinforces the marina’s role as a regional asset—supporting economic opportunity,
environmental stewardship, and community engagement for future generations.
