County Executive McMahon & Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo Announce New Memorandum of Understanding
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – County Executive Ryan McMahon and the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo
today announced the execution of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), reaffirming a decades-long partnership that has helped position the Rosamond Gifford Zoo as one of Central New York’s most valued community institutions.
The signed agreement represents a strong, mutually beneficial deal for both the Friends organization and county taxpayers. The MOU modernizes roles and expectations, brings added transparency and accountability, and provides a clear framework for collaboration as the Zoo moves into an exciting new era of growth.
“The Rosamond Gifford Zoo thrives because of the strong partnership between Onondaga County and the Friends organization,” said County Executive McMahon. “This MOU ensures that we continue building on that success in a way that protects taxpayers, strengthens operations, and supports the many exciting projects planned for the Zoo’s future.”
Leaders from the Friends of the Zoo echoed that enthusiasm.
“We are excited to move forward with a renewed spirit of collaboration that allows our team to focus on what they do best: supporting this world-class facility and the incredible animal care staff,” said Andrew Brazill, Interim Executive Director of the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. “This agreement honors the trust our donors and members place in us as stewards of their contributions, ensuring their support directly benefits the Zoo’s mission. It provides the stability needed to ensure the Rosamond Gifford Zoo remains a crown jewel for our community for years to come.”
Both organizations highlighted that the timing of the new MOU comes as the Zoo prepares for several major enhancements, including exhibits, guest experience upgrades, and expanded conservation and education initiatives.
