A Statement from County Executive Ryan McMahon Regarding Chancellor Kent Syverud’s Announcement
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said, “For nearly twelve years Chancellor Kent Syverud has led Syracuse University with respect and honor. Most importantly, he has always been a true partner and friend to me personally and to Onondaga County as a whole. Our unique and successful partnership is what allowed us to work seamlessly together as we navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and that unique partnership is what also helped our community secure the largest economic investment in the history of our country with Micron. Syracuse University is an incredibly important economic engine for our region, but Chancellor Syverud had the wisdom to know that a healthy university requires a healthy and economically robust community. The clearest example of that recognition can be found with the $10 million commitment to establish the Syracuse University Center for Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing. This Center will play a vital role in developing the workforce that Micron and other advanced semiconductor manufacturers will need.” McMahon continued, “I want to wish the Chancellor and his family all the best over the next year and in all their future endeavors. I know that while his title and role may be changing, his friendship and commitment
to this community will remain stronger than ever.”
