County Executive McMahon Announces Semiconductor Company “onsemi” Coming to Onondaga County
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – County Executive McMahon today announced that onsemi has acquired the former NextGen fab facility in DeWitt where it plans to make a nearly $120 million investment and ultimately create 80 new jobs in the semiconductor industry. onsemi is a leading semiconductor company that designs and manufactures energy-efficient solutions for a wide range of industries such as automotive, industrial, cloud power and IoT (internet of things). They will also be asking OCIDA to approve relevant benefits for the project.
Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said, “This is a truly exciting day for Onondaga County and our burgeoning local semiconductor industry. The massive investment and jobs proposed by onsemi serves as further validation that Onondaga County and Central New York have become the hub for companies looking to expand and grow in the semiconductor space. The project will be done in two phases: a research and development phase and a manufacturing phase. The initial R&D phase is where onsemi will acquire the inactive site in DeWitt as well as the equipment. For the second phase, onsemi will renovate the facility to be able to accommodate the manufacturing of their semiconductor technology.
