SYRACUSE, N.Y. – County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced today that County Sales Tax
Revenue is up 4.2% through April when compared to the same time period last year. This represents an
overall increase of $2.6 million.

County Executive Joanie Mahoney said, “These latest sales tax numbers are welcomed news and further
proof that the local economy is growing here in Onondaga County. As we continue to rely more on sales
tax instead of property tax, investments like the St. Joe’s Amp, New York State Fairgrounds and our
local agricultural community will ensure we continue to see the growth we need to operate County
government without burdening the property taxpayer.”

The increase in sales tax dollars also means the City of Syracuse will receive an additional $600,000 as
compared to the same period last year. Tens of thousands of people drive into the city every day for
work and the increased revenue recognizes and supports them as the economic engine it is for our entire
region.
