County Executive Joanie Mahoney & Galaxy Communications Announce “Second Chance for Second Chance” at Lights on the Lake to Benefit Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter
Lights on the Lake Now Scheduled Through Monday, January 8th
County Executive Joanie Mahoney and Galaxy Communications President & CEO Ed Levine
announced today that the annual Lights on the Lake show will remain open one additional night as a
benefit to the Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter. The show will now close on Monday, January 8th at 10pm offering visitors one more chance to visit the two-mile long display at a discounted price of
$5 per vehicle. All of the proceeds will benefit the Second Chance Shelter in Jamesville.
President & CEO Ed Levine said, “Lights on the Lake is the premier winter event in Central New York
and Galaxy Communications is proud to extend it one more night to benefit the great work being done at
Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter.”
County Executive Joanie Mahoney said, “Thank you to Galaxy Communications for their willingness to
extend Lights on the Lake one more night to benefit the Friends of Second Chance. I encourage
everyone who has not yet had the chance to see these fantastic lights to come out for one more special
night and also support the Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter.”
Founded in 2015 and housed at the Onondaga County Department of Corrections in Jamesville, NY, the Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter is run entirely by volunteers at the direction of the Board of Directors in partnership with the department of Corrections. Select inmates are chosen to participate and become responsible for following detailed plans for each dog that including feeding, caring and training schedules.
Kimberly Smith-Ford, President of the Board of Directors said, “The Friends of Second Chance is
incredibly grateful to Galaxy Communications and Onondaga County for supporting the shelter with an
extra night of Lights on the Lake. We hope that people will not only enjoy these great displays, but also
find their next “forever” friend!”
Please note that advance sale and complimentary tickets will not be accepted. In addition, donations of
dog items for the shelter such as toys, beds, blankets, nylon leashes and more will be accepted at the
ticket booth.
Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter has already adopted dozens of dogs to their “furever” homes
and is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 10AM – 2PM. They can also be found online
