Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Everyone, even people who are young and healthy, must stay home to slow the spread of COVID-19. You should:

• Stay at home and avoid all non-essential contact with others.
• Limit trips for groceries, gas and other essentials.
• If you must go out, stay at least 6 feet away from others at all times.

Continue to wash your hands often, cover coughs and sneezes, disinfect surfaces, and stay informed. Information and guidance related to COVID-19 changes daily. We are continually updating the resources below to provide easy access to accurate and timely local information. Also regularly visit the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) websites for statewide and national news about COVID-19.

Testing for COVID-19

If you develop symptoms such as fever, cough, and/or difficulty breathing, and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 or have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19, stay home and call your doctor. If you are older, have severe underlying medical conditions, or are immunocompromised, call your doctor early, even if your illness is mild. In an emergency call 911. Your doctor will determine if you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and order the test if needed.

If you do not have a doctor and have questions, symptoms, or may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, call Upstate University Hospital’s Triage Line at 315.464.3979 and you will be advised about testing. The line is open 7am to 11pm each day.

TEST RESULTS: Patients will be notified of negative test results by the office that administered their test. By emergency order, anyone who is tested must self-quarantine until they receive a negative test result. If you were tested at the Syracuse Community Health Center (SCHC) triage site, you can check your results on the Quest Diagnostics website. If you received a test at any Upstate hospital/clinic, you can check your results in your MyChart account.

The Onondaga County Health Department (OCHD) receives notification of positive results only from the New York State Department of Health, and patients are notified immediately. Positive individuals are placed under isolation and monitoring, and OCHD begins contact tracing and notification of close contacts.
