{"id":42,"date":"2016-07-28T20:31:12","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T20:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onondaga.gov\/health-lead\/workers\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T11:19:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T15:19:11","slug":"workers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/onondaga.gov\/health-lead\/workers\/","title":{"rendered":"Workers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Home Repair Workers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lead dust created by traditional renovation work can cause lead poisoning in children, pregnant women, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.health.ny.gov\/environmental\/workplace\/clinic_network.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">yourself, other workers<\/a>, and even family pets. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.health.ny.gov\/publications\/2543\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Practical changes in your work practices <\/a>can minimize and contain lead dust, make the job safer, and reduce your liability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP Rule) <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/renovaterightbrochure.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onondaga.gov\/health-lead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/197\/2016\/07\/print_14pg_000.jpg\" alt=\"Sign Up\" style=\"width:319px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all individuals paid to work on homes and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/lead\/lead-renovation-repair-and-painting-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">properly trained and certified<\/a>. This includes individuals who collect rent. Individuals must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete certification training from an <a href=\"https:\/\/cdxapps.epa.gov\/ocspp-oppt-lead\/training-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accredited training provider.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notify and provide education to occupants prior to beginning renovations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Document that occupants were notified prior to beginning renovations.
